Re: Vista Gadget

I would really like a Vista Gadget for my ReadyNAS! Any idea if there is one in the works?

I found a site that describes how to create a Vista Gadget. I am not all that familiar with VBScript, but the concept looks simple enough. From the look of it, all you need is a manifest file, some html with the script, and the graphics. I also found a site for Authoring Sidebar Gadgets in C#. My guess is that someone could manually review what's provided for the Yahoo Widget and use that to make a Vista Gadget, but I don't think my skills are up to that task just yet. Maybe someone will take what I found and run with it. 🙂

Re: Vista Gadget

Count me in too for the Vista Gadget. Nice to have stuff on the screen when you need it, but as with anything you can disable it when you want to reduce network traffic.

Re: Vista Gadget

I'm keen, just got a pro and having the info at a glance would be gr8! Little sad to see there hasnt been much action on this post for a while could be a bad sign.

(and no the yahoo one doesnt count as yahoo widgets are rubish and require i run a RAM eating extra program)

Re: Vista Gadget

Not exactly a Vista gadget but this is a nice little desktop view of your NAS.

viewtopic.php?f=48&t=33160

Word to the wise, I had to run it using a direct point to my NAS IP otherwise it wouldn't locate the NAS. Even with it pointed to the NAS IP, it still can take several minutes after opening to locate the NAS. From there on screen updating can be set for shorter intervals and seems to work OK. Every so often it will lose comm with the NAS and I have to close and re-open. Its also crashed on me a few times and closed itself.

A few things I'd like to see added to this tool:

1) pop up on alert
2) ability to set NAS IP in the app window or through .ini
3) Faster NAS acquisition
4) Notification if comm is lost with NAS
5) minimize to tray option

Re: Vista Gadget

Any chance of getting a Windows 7 Gadget for Christmas 2009? It would make a great stocking stuffer! 😄

Re: Vista Gadget

Would still love to see a gadget.

I had the Yahoo gadget on my PC until upgrading to W7... and would like to be able to "know" what is going on with my ReadyNAS when I'm not in the same room as it.

I need to know if it needs feeding, is lonely, hungry, overworked & hot, etc.
