Why are you asking over and over?  Just get the Ironwolf.  It'll work fine.

Users here have had a better experience with Ironwolf than Barracuda.

I can't see your pictures until a moderator approves them, so can't help a lot with the root problem.  But I can say that cloud backup will take an eternmity and you may not have that amount of time.  Doing a local backup now while you still have access to the files is the right approach.

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

It looks like the resync failed on disk 4 (per the first screenshot).  The second one says a disk test is in progress, it's not clear what the timing is.  However, it looks like disk 4 might have failed.  The best way to confirm would be to power down the NAS, and connect the disk to a Windows PC, and test it with SeaTools.  You can connect with a USB adapter/dock if you can't connect it with SATA.

Honestly I wouldn't use that disk. Some recent barracuda drives have switched to SMR technology which isn't a good choice for RAID. Look for a 4 TB Seagate Ironwolf instead.  ST4000VN008 is the currently shipping model for that.

Disks 3 and 4 are in a RAID-1 array.  Disk 4 needs to be at least the same size as disk 3.

Correct, no need to match the model/label or manufacturer.  It is best to match the speed (you will get a warning if you don't, but the array will still work).

But don't get an SMR technology drive.  That rules out currently shipping Seagate DM (BarraCuda) models ( https://www.seagate.com/internal-hard-drives/cmr-smr-list/ ) and WD30EFAX and WD40EFAX drives from Western Digital.

Which RAID is best for you does depend on your particular situation.

XRAID is the best mode for most users, and 4x4TB would give you more storage than you are getting now -12 TB in one volume (10.9 Tib) instead of 8 TB (7.27 TiB) across two volumes.

If you can back up your second volume, you could switch your first volume to 3x4TB RAID-5, which would give you the same storage you have now, but with only three disks.  After the backup, you'd destroy the second volume, remove the disks, switch to XRAID, and then hot-insert the third disk.

RAID redundancy is a good thing, though if you have to choose between backup and RAID redundancy, then go with backup.

As I've tried to say before, I don't recommend using BarraCuda drives in a NAS.  Personally I'd get an Ironwolf if I were looking for a Seagate.  Current pricing on Amazon Italy is 89,90€.

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

i HAD 4 BARRACUDA IN THE NAS

now one is broken nad it cost almost 200 dollars because it has become rare.

so the quesiton is 98 euros for a ironwolf or 200 but have same identicall drive?

Do you have a question?

I am unclear as to whether Seatools was testing your old disk or a new one.

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

I'd follow up with the write test (might be called "erase" in seatools).  This is an "advanced" test because it erases the data on the disk.

There are a couple of extra steps needed to enable the advanced tests.

I have had disks that pass the full non-destructive tests, but which fail the write test (and vice versa).

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

The NAS will format and partition the drive.  There is normally a 4 GB partition for the operating system, a small partition for swap, and one or more partitions for the data volume.  The size and number of the data volume partitions depend on the RAID groups that are in the volume.

this one is not the nas hdd is the external antec unit hdd and i cannot split it in 2 TB volumes 2+2=4TB barracuda..

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

I don't why you need to split it.

But normally you'd right-click on the volume and shrink it to 2 TB.  Then  right-click on the unallocated space, and create a new simple volume.

Re: need to solve hdd failure on a Nas RN104

How old is the PC?  Some very old PCs can't handle GPT formatting (and the older MBR formatting is limited to 2 TB).

Old adapter/docks sometimes also don't support GPT.
