Current Netgear Models

The current Netgear ReadyNAS Range is as follows

RN212 / RN214

RN312 / RN314 / RN316 - Intel Atom 2.1GHz Dual Core / 2Gb

RN422 / RN424 / RN426 / RN428 - Intel Atom C3000 Quad Core / 4GB DDR4

RN516 - Intel Core Ivy Bridge i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual Core / 4GB (Now Discontinued)

RN524 / RN526 / RN528 - Intel D-1508 Dual Core 2.2GHz / 4Gb DDR4

RN626 / RN628

I am currently upgrading my ReadyNAS Pro 6 to OS6.

The Memory is 1024MB and can be upgraded if necessary

Q1 - With regard to my processor, where does my Pro 6 fit in with the current range.

Q2 - If I wanted to upgrade or replace my Pro 6 which models should I consider.

      - I would want to upgrade to a model which gave a good speed increase.

Re: Current Netgear Models

RN102/RN104 - (now discontinued)

RN202/RN204 - (now discontinued)

RN212 / RN214

RN312 / RN314 / RN316 - (now discontinued)

RN422 / RN424 / RN426 / RN428 - Intel Atom C3000 Quad Core / 4GB DDR4

RN516 - Intel Core Ivy Bridge i3-3220 3.3GHz Dual Core / 4GB (Now Discontinued)

RN524 / RN526 / RN528 - Intel D-1508 Dual Core 2.2GHz / 4Gb DDR4

RN626 / RN628

RN716 - (not sure of its status)

A couple corrections and additions to your list.  Note this is just the desktop NAS line, it does not include rackmount models.

The Pro-6 (RNDP6000-200) has an E5300 running at 2.6 Ghz.  I'm not seeing a common performance benchmark that spans all these chips off hand, but I think the pro's CPU performance is likely similar to the RN42x.  The RN516 is faster, and I'm thinking the RN52x has at least the same performance as the RN51x.

"Speed" is a bit fuzzy, because it depends on the task.  Maximizing file server speed for 50 users is quite different from maximizing Plex transcoding speed.

My impression from your other posts is that you are likely more interested in Plex performance than multi-user loads.

The RN52x can handle 1080p plex transcoding comfortably, but stalls out at 4K.  Users here have said the RN62x can handle a single 4K stream.  Tne RN716 is faster still.  Hopefully that helps.
