RN104 100% CPU within 1 month of restarting

This started 2 updates ago (6.6.0).  Within 1 month or a fresh restart, both of my RN104 will suddenly reach 100% usage within a few minutes of each other.  This has been happening for a few times now and I am wondering if anyone is experiencing this.

Yes, experienced that too with AntiVirus service enabled. See whether it gets back to normal after you disabled AV.

Re: RN104 100% CPU within 1 month of restarting

I can confirm that disabling the AV service resolved this issue for me and my 104.

Symptoms were timemachine unable to find timemachine backup volume, admin website did not load or reconnected or reloaded all the time, out of disk space messages. All this went away after disabling the AV service.

Great to hear that. Let me recommend to keep it disabled until the new firmware 6.7 will be available. You could also try to toggle it on again and see whether it decides to behave now. At least you have a workaround.

Re: RN104 100% CPU within 1 month of restarting

Thanks for the tip.  Unfortunately I don't use AV or time machine or any "fancy" features.  Mine are both just a iSCSI setup with a SMB share for image storage.  I have checked that I don't have anything scheduled for the volume like blanace, defrag, etc.

Maybe next update will fix this issue and my other issue with UPS not being detected after a restart.

Cheers!

Re: RN104 100% CPU within 1 month of restarting

Yup, as predicted, it happened again 23 days after last restart.  Both RN104 went to 100% CPU and stuck there.  I guess I am on a 3 week restart cycle with these two NAS.

Are you able to send in your logs (see the Sending Logs link in my sig)?

Perhaps you could try disabling Jumbo Frames.

OK thanks, I have done that.  Time till tell I guess.  Seems strange why around 3 weeks it happens.  So no jumbo frames until next update?

Just no jumbo frames, there is no point using that on a 104. All pain, no gain.

Re: RN104 100% CPU within 1 month of restarting

if I'm not wrong you need to go to Network and then klick on the settings icon for the network card used (eth0).

Jumbo frames should mean you are using MTU size of 9000.

Set it to 1500 which is the default for Ethernet.

You need to enter the value, it's not selectable.

Turned off jumbo frame but problem still exist on both Rn104.  Both CPU went to 100% again. Time to restart them both again.

=(
