RN31600-100EUS or RN51600-100EUS?

Hello,

I am looking forward to upgrade my old Readynas NV+ System.

First I wanted to buy a Readynas Pro 6 (RNDP-6000-2EUS) but I couldn't decide to do so.

Now I am happy I have waited the long time and Netgear has released the new models.

But I am not sure which one to buy. The ReadyNAS 316 RN316 or ReadyNAS 516 RN516?

The RN31600 has a Intel Atom 2.1GHz dual core cpu and the RN516 a Intel Ivy Bridge Core i3-3220 3.3GHz dual core cpu.

Which one should I choose? I think the RN316 suffice me needs for HD Video streaming and Audio streaming over LAN and as file storage.

Also the RN516 is just double in prize with 1.150 EUR.

Any idea which hard drive to choose? On the HCL the WD Black WD4001FAEX is listed but the drive has no 24hrs/7day certification.
The WD4000FYYZ isn't on the list yet. Western Digital recommends this drive for NAS -Servers on their web-site. The drive also can be used for 24hrs/7day operation. So I think the drive should be more reliable in the Readnas System.

Any suggestions?

best regards

If just streaming the RN316 will be fine. If you need to transcode HD video then the RN516 would be the sway to go.

Stick to the compatibility list. If you use disks outside the list NetGear can and will deny support.
