I resolved this problem tonight. I tried all of the others solutions with managing windows credentials or turn off password protected sharing or enable 40 or 56 bit encryptopm but what resolved it for me was simply changing the routers admin password to something new after I had the readyshare configured. Hope it helpes someone else.

That partially solved my issue. However, I have some of the shared folders setup with read access with no password and write access with password. When accessing the read-only folder via windows, I still had to enter the router admin credentials.

This issue is driving me nuts.
1st question: how do I even know what the password of my admin account should be? I never created one explicitly. Admin = common user account?
2nd question: How come I can't connect with smb://admin@1.2.3.4/readyshare with any password that could be my admin account? Also for me it seems that admin protected folders dont work
Please help.

Hi rovaaa,
1. What is the model number and firmware version of your device?
2. The credentials used for the ReadySHARE feature is the same as the router/device credentials (default username is admin, default password is password).
3. Please check the link below for an overview of the ReadySHARE feature.

From post 15 of this thread stiil applies with R8000P router Firmware: V1.4.1.50_1.3.10. You will need to reset the admin password after setting up the readyshare. Note there is nothing stopping you setting it back to your perferred password afterwards.

I have this same problem - my foscam stopped transferring files and I could not get the ftp login to work no matter what I tried. After wasting two days trying to solve I saw this thread and tried changing the admin password and now it works - somehow that must have triggered the ftp process to pick up the new password (or ??). I have an r7800 running version V1.0.2.68 and this is June 29, 2020. I would think Netgear would have fixed this 2016 problem by now...

My bad - you are right. But this thread is what helped me solve the FTP problem. Interestingly I had no trouble accessing readyshare, only FTP did not work, but the password change solved it.
