Good move for some people.
In you search for a new brand, check its own support forums. First to see if it has one and then to see if its hardware has similar problems. Unlikely, but you don't want to jump out of the frying pan into the fire.

If anyone has a link to the old firmware for the R8000 please post it! I spent hours setting up my router for my network and servers including turning on Parental controls, and now there is absolutely no way to turn it off again unless I reset the router (which we already know doesn’t work) but I don’t think I should waste another several hours/days of my life re-configuring my router because of Netgear’s clearly incompetent developers. Even if I backup my settings it will just backup all the damn Parental Control crap too so I'll be back to square one having to reset yet again and then hours trying to remember how I had everything configured on my network.

In my case I use the device's IP address rather than routerlogin.net.
