Genie login fails from another wifi on the network

Here's the relevant topology of my home network:

WAN:

  • WNR2000v5 (192.168.1.1) - Wireless disabled, DHCP enabled
    • Another non-Netgear router (192.168.1.2) - wired to 192.168.1.1's LAN port, Wireless enabled, DHCP disabled
      • Bunch of wireless devices, including my Android phone
    • Other wired devices

WNR2000v5 (192.168.1.1) is the entry router  - connected to the WAN, DHCP enabled, wireless disabled. Another router (192.168.1.2) wired to WNR2000v5 has the wireless network enabled, DHCP disabled.

When my phone is on 192.168.1.2 wireless network, Genie Android app cannot login to the WNR2000v5.

I recently made the change where DHCP is disabled on the wireless router. Around the same time, I think an update arrived for the Android Genie app. It is not clear what caused the login to stop working.

Before that I used to be able to log in to WNR2000v5 with the Genie app.

Any pointers on what could be going on?

Re: Genie login fails from another wifi on the network

Welcome to the community, @asolkar

What's the IP address of the Android? Can you ping the IP address of the NETGEAR router from the Android device while connected to the wireless network of the non-NETGEAR one?

Try also to see if you can ping both routers when a PC is connected directly to the NETGEAR router.

I don't see any problem with the setup unless the DHCP on the non-NETGEAR is still working.

@ElaineM, IP address of the android phone is 192.168.1.117. I can connect to both routers - Netgear and the other one - from the android phone using the web browser just fine. I just can't get the Genie app to connect to the router.

What's the version of your Genie?

Just to clarify, the Genie app is on the Android or on the PC?

How do you access the router, is it local connection or remote?

Did you try to uninstall/reinstall the app?

Re: Genie login fails from another wifi on the network

My Genie Android App version is 3.1.28. Yes, the app is on Android phone.

I am trying to access the router with a local connection.

I did try uninstalling and re-installing the app.

I am attaching screenshots of Genie login failure and browser successfully loading the web interface on the same phone.

Hi @asolkar,

1. Does the issue persist on your other devices (PC, another Android, iOS)?

2. You can try installing the previous version of NETGEAR Genie for Android using the link below.
