Genie valid password rejected during setup

When trying to set up Genie, it asks for a password; I give one and confirm it; it's rejected as "invalid" with a note saying it must contain a capital letter, a small letter, a numerical letter, and several special characters are allowed, and be between 8 and 20 characters long.  I do all that, several times, in various ways, all of which are rejected as "invalid".  Very perplexing.  Can't get started with Genie to manage the router.  Need to, because it shuts down internet after 9 pm, and now that the country's clocks changed, it's shutting down at 8 pm, an hour too early, and users, they don't like it very much!   What to do?   It's a NetGear NightHawk, AC1750 SMart Wifi Router, Model No. R6700.  Bought in April this year (2015).  I normally use a Linux, but am borrowing a PC under Windows XP, connected by ethernet to the router.

Re: Genie valid password rejected during setup

The router can be entirely managed without the Windows Genie application. Just connect to the router's Wi-Fi network or connect to it via Ethernet cable and point your browser at http://routerlogin.net, http://routerlogin.com or the router's IP address, if you happen to know it.

Go to ADVANCED > Security > Schedule to adjust the schedule for blocking Internet access.

Re: Genie valid password rejected during setup

I'm very glad to be able to manage the Netgear router without the Genie application, since I can't seem to get the application.

On the other hand, I was interested in the parental controls, and they don't seem to be manageable through the router's interface, despite the appearance that it can, as it only redirects me back to the attempt to use the Genie app.  Likely, 'cause I'm using one of the Linux distros.

So, my workaround is to negotiate with OpenDNS, and they are being very helpful in setting up their service for me, to screen out the junk that the parental controls should screen out.  So far, the only hitch seems to be the need to contact the ISP and see if they will adjust to allow the DNS redirection go through to the OpenDNS'  "resolvers", instead of redirecting such requests back to their own.

In any case, we're done on this thread, and thank you for replying.  🙂
