Netgear Genie Locks Up (Mac El Capitan)

After 1st use of Genie (changed Name to be included on public list of networks and a new password), successfully accessed internet on the MAC and also, after changing to new name and password (of router) on HP printer, printing is fine.
However, re-access to Genie, to continue updating/upgrading settings, Genie locks up after requesting change of admin. Display does display ADMIN and the filled in password (I don't remember if I changed from default or not when I installed some time ago), and the two boxes ("OK" which is shaded, "CANCEL" which is not shaded). Genie appears to be locked up. Nothing seems to be selectable or work within the Genie window. To recover, I click the red button on top left of window, and after a few moments, but not immediately, the Genie goes away, and MAC operates in normal fashion. Would appreciate any help or suggestion from the community.

Re: Netgear Genie Locks Up (Mac El Capitan)
Don't know version, or how to look at current version or how to update firmware. I have tried to access information from the reoter by keying in the address, but it does not respond using my macair. El Capitan is installed. I have been successful changing the router user name but which it is known ( fo the 2.4) ), and also the passwod. I am able to use wifi successfould like to use the genie for, is to change some additional settings/parameters to hopefully make my router more secure. I do not understand the terminology used for some of these settings and was hoping the genie could help me.
