Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

I have a Netgear Netgear WNDR3700v4. I recently updated the software. Now, the genie crashes randomly. I have an iMac runing El Capitan 10.11.6. After genie crashes, I can restart it with no problems and no apparent ill effects.  I worry about the underlying cause and wonder if there are bad things happening I don't know about.

Hi @pmhowe,

Please try uninstalling and re-installing the app/program. Also, does the issue persist on your other devices?

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

 Hi Dexter,

Thanks for the help. I reinstalled the Genie app and everything is working fine. I don't (yet) have genie installed on my other devices, so can't tell if the proble was cross-platform.

Thanks again

Phil

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

I spoke too soon: Genie just crashed.

Genie takes a fair length of time to launch - longer than Safari, for example. I also tend to hit the "deny" button when genie asks to accept incoming connections. Not sure either has anything to do with the problem, but thought I would mention them.

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

Genie Version 2.4.38 goes down in Windows 10 (up2date) very often here, too ... when sitting in the background or minimized.

This has been reported to engineering already and a fix will be integrated on the next update. Please make sure you check for the update.

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

Having followed the uninstall/reinstall advice here, I am seeing the same issue.

I am using Windows 10. Version 1607 (OS Build 14393.969). Netgear Genie Version 2.4.38

AC1750|C6300 Router

I know there is a comment which says it has already been reported and a fix is forthcoming. I am pasting in two event log Application Error 1000 Events just in case it might help.

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

Mine is still shutting down unexpectedly.  I go to look for it only to find it shut down.  No crash report.

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

Hi, Have the same problem with network genie randomaly crashing  /  shutting down, even after its been removed via programs add & remove thing in win 8.1 x 64, task bar still shows the icon.

it seem to never close down correctly and since install has caused problems with ether over mains lan utility, strange

only after a reboot does it clear from task bar.

kind of hoping that was to be fixed by now.

Re: Netgear Genie crashes randomly.

Can we not downgrade the app? We know we can downgrade the netgear router firmware

Do have a mac version for the same issue. Netgenie keeps randomly crashing. I reopen and within 2 hours it's crashed again.
