Netgear Genie vs Nighthawk app
I previously owned a Nighthawk R8500 that was managed by the Netgear Genie. The R8500 died (I suspect the cat laying on it had something to do with that). Just purchased a Nighthawk RAX43, downloaded...

Don't suppose you have a wireless extender sitting around that you'd connected and setup thats still broadcasting?
Or maybe a neighbor you gave the info to for setting up their own extender with?
Because it does look like something is broadcasting. And you logged into the current router (via the browser) to make sure the "private" one wasn't on there.

Guru, I do have a Nighthawk extender that was originally configured with the R8500 router. I set it up yesterday with the new RAX43 router setup and new SSIDs. If it is just "extending," how can it project something from a router that is no longer here? And, what can I do about it?
Thank you.

Did you reset the extender before you set it up with the new router?
And about that modem .... ?

I'm more curious because something is broadcasting the ssid.
So its to log into your currently connected devices and check what ssid/password they're setup with.
You can also connect to that ssid and try logging into it. You don't need an internet connection to log into it.
So connect to it and try mywifiext . net or 192.168.1.250
Those are netgears default extender ip address/login address.

Yes.Really weird.
But a reset would rule out something strange happening with the router.
And the comments from L-Rod about the desktop genie are also puzzling. It still works. It could be useful in diagnosing those phantom SSIDs. Claiming that this "app" does not work is clearly wrong – it does – and needs diagnosing to rule out any other oddities.

The Genie is working, and is using the new router's SSID. But it will not let me log into the router settings. I regret now that the old router has gone to hazmat recycling.
