Netgear06 Security and internet connectivity

Why would Netgear06 Genie for our Netgear06 dual band router have our network security for the 2.4 Ghz as WEP and the 5Ghz as WPA2-PSK[AES]? Should I change the 2.4 GHZ network to the WPA2 security? Also each network showed with different network names, shouldnt they both be listed under same network name so when our home network connects to a network name, it will be accessing both bands of the router?.

  • The security should match - WPA2-PSK[AES].  No WEP. Not secure.

ssid's should be something like this: <yourssid> (for 2.4ghz) and <yourssid-5g> so that you can distinguish the difference between 2.4 and 5 ghz. Some clients may only be able to access 2.4 ghz and other clients, both. Depends what clients you have on your network.Make sure you do not use the default passwords / passphrases, as others can easily connect to your network. Create strong password and strong passphrases. Check out this link
