PLP1200, WAC120, Centria 4700, etc Questions for new build

I am in the process of building(replacing old infrastructure) a new wireless/wired home network environment. Background of equipment is: Centria 4700 WiFi Router(wired to Smart BluRay player & Yamaha Receiver) feeding a PLP1200. I have a total of 6(3 kits) PLP1200s. One feeds the PL network, three others just have a single PC plugged into them. Remaining two I have plugged Access Points(Netgear WAC120, Ubiquiti Unifi Pro/AC) into. My main question/pain with the Netgear design is that Genie should let me get into any of the Netgear setting screens just by selecting them on the Network map. Most of my devices(Netgear) show up as Unknown. I have temporarily disabled my AV on the PC(wired) running Genie and they still show as Unknown(PLP1200s). Seems to give me the ability to "name them" but doesn't hold when I set a name(MBR, Basement, etc). Even making the security encryption changes via Genie appears to not hold. Seems very flaky at best. Powerline Adapter Utility also shows the devices as Unknown so I am not sure why a Netgear utility can't recognize model and feature set of a Netgear product. Perhaps I am expecting too much from Genie/utility. Anyone know how I can resolve this? Thanks in advance.

Hi @garylittlefield,

1. What is the firmware version of the router?

2. What version of NETGEAR Genie do you have installed?

3. Do the other NETGEAR devices (powerline/s) show up as unknown when viewed on your other devices (smartphone, other computers)?

4. Please provide a screenshot if possible.

Yes. Called into support yesterday. On hold for 40 minutes and then after 10 minute call they hung up on me. I will update answers to your questions this morning. Next option will be to eliminate my Netgear environment.

Re: PLP1200, WAC120, Centria 4700, etc Questions for new build

Since my first post my environment has gotten worse. Now I only have an Internet feed from my Netgear Centria 4700(1.0.0.52) to my Netgear 6100 extender so my Genie(latest version) is on my iPad and doesn't show my Power links at all. I have even attempted factory reset on the PLs to eliminate encryption. Zero connection from my Centria to my PC via PL1200s. Guess I will try calling again today.

Hi @garylittlefield,

Please try setting up the power lines (PL1200's) in the same room as router (WNDR4700) as an isolation. Please keep us posted on the results and status of your setup.

Re: PLP1200, WAC120, Centria 4700, etc Questions for new build

Genie version 2.4.26 still displays my PLP1200 as Unknown. Working on getting Netgear products to work together

is more difficult than it should be.

Hi @garylittlefield,

Please try using the latest version (2.4.32) of NETGEAR Genie for Windows and see if the issue persists.

Hi,

I am using Powerline Utility 3.1.0.4 and Genie 2.4.34 and have the same issue.

Device Model: unknown - no option to rename device.

Annoying.

Cheers, Jorge

Hi @bjgirdwood,

1. Do you also have a NETGEAR router? If yes, what is the model number and firmware version?

2. Have you tried using another device (iOS, Android, another computer) to check the Network Map?

3. Please provide a screenshot if possible.
