Parental Control R7000 - Interesting
Hello All,
New R7000 here - and parental control with OpenDNS is working fine.
However, I downloaded the Netgear Genie on my iPad Air 2, and I have made a change that I don't see on the router: On the network map, I selected the iPad I was using, and there is a button for "parental controls". I changed the Default level to "none".
Now, this iPad is able to access the internet in all its ugliness without a problem. 🙂
However, I don't see how this was done? There are no bypass accounts, and no settings on the router itself that I can see have been changed.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
R

Hi @Rhyalus,
1. What is the firmware version of the router?
2. What version of the NETGEAR Genie app do you have installed?
3. Have you tried re-installing the app?
4. Does the issue persist on your other device (iOS, Android, computer)?
Regards,
Dexter

Re: Parental Control R7000 - Interesting
Hello,
1. V1.0.8.34_1.2.15
2. iPad v 2.4.38 Netgear Genie
3. Why?
4. It isnt really a problem. The netgear genie seems to have allowed the ipad "through" the parental controls... but...how? How would I do the same thing through the netgear admin or opendns login?
I am trying to figure out why it works...
Thanks,
R

Re: Parental Control R7000 - Interesting
Hi @Rhyalus,
This is part of the LPC (Live Parental Control) feature of the device which will allow a per device filtering level. This is done through the OpenDNS servers. You can log in to https://netgear.opendns.com/sign_in.php to manage the settings if you have already configured your account. The links below may help out in providing an overview on some of the features.

Re: Parental Control R7000 - Interesting
Hi Derek,
Thanks for the reply.
I logged into opendns and there are no device controls there on the website - just the ability to create bypass accounts. There is also nothing on the router itself.
In my mind it has to be some token on the device itself. I will do a little more research.
Thanks,
Marc
