Router with content filtering

Hello.  I am working with a company that looks after children with problems on two sites. They have ordered BT Business broadband but it does not come with content filtering. There will be up to 30 kids on site with about three or four laptops and half a dozen tablets.

Could I just replace the BT Business router with a netgear one and do they come with the "Circle" content filtering?  I basically want to block all devices from porn etc. Can anyone make a recomendation?

Hi @barryd,

Welcome to the community!

We recommend checking with your ISP (BT) if they allow replacing the provided router with your own. You can check the links below for Circle compatible routers.

What hardware does BT supply for the Business router?

The domestic Homehub is a pile of rubbish that does not allow you to put it into "bridge" (modem only) mode. If you want to use an add on device, you have to put it into access point mode, but that disables features like parental controls.

Many of BT's domestic customers, I'm one, ditch the Homehub and use a decent modem or modem/router that they can control. In my case, thanks to various beta tests, I use a modem/router (D6400) in modem only mode and then feed that into a R7800 router that comes with all those bells and whistles.

A quick check of the BT website suggests that you may be able to put the business box into modem only mode:

BT Business Smart Hub - user guide | BT Business | BT Business

In that case, you can just get yourself a decent router that supports Disney Circle.

I have not used Circle, but I have investigated the less powerful Parental Controls feature.

So, I'm with @DexterJB. Investigate what BT allows

Re: Router with content filtering

Thanks for the replies. They have gone for the business product Infinity and its the New BT smart router with 4g Assure backup.  Ill be disconnecting the wifi in the router and installing two Unifi wifi access points.

I think I can probably edit the DNS servers and just use the OPenDNS servers for blocking porn etc but BT are a bit cagey about it as I imagine they will be about replacing their router with a netgear one.  I Cant do that from day one anyway as Ill need the 4g assure connected via the BT router untlil the actual line is installed in about two weeks time.

Typically its going to be suck it and see!
