my app is stuck and it is keeping me from using other apps on my phone.
how to I unstick my phone's Nighthawk app? I was trying to update my firmware, per instructions, and now all I get is the app is held up. Nothing is happening, I can't seem to get out of it and my router isn't getting updated either. When I try to get on other apps, they are not working because of this. Help.

try rebooting your phone?
which phone? I know android you can force close apps. Or even uninstall it.
I don't recommend updating the router over your phone app. I know that you can but that's usually where we run into the most issues with routers. When they're updated with apps or over wireless. the ideal way to update is over a hardwired (ethernet) connection to the router. it tends to have the least errors and most success.
