Does Netgear Nighthawk X4 AC2200 Wi-Fi Extender Wall Plug create a new network

Does the Netgear Nighthawk X4 AC2200 Wi-Fi Extender Wall Plug  create a new network or remain as the existing one.  I understand that things like Hive products need to be on the same network as the hub but my router doesn't cover the whole of my house.  Would an extender resolve this issue?

    Normally it creates a network that has the same name and security as your router network.  It supports some advanced wifi features to help wifi devices seemlessly switch to/from the extender as needed.

     

    So it will look like your existing network, but will have a bigger coverage area.
