Range extenders need a good signal from the base station to be able to retransmit a good signal to distant clients, and so their positioning relative to both can sometimes be a tricky compromise. So it’s difficult to give a decisive answer without knowing the details of your house layout and being able to suggest a likely best position for the extender.
