Netgear Knighthawk x6 and DG834g
Hi, I have a Nighthawk x6 R8000 wifi router, I also have an old Netgear DG834g, what i am looking to do is get Wifi into my garage, the garage has a spare RJ45 data socket which is part of the CA...

Its a bit more than just plug and play but not a whole lot. setup is pretty easy with these devices.
Here's what I'd recommend. go here: https://www.netgear.com/home/products/networking/wifi-range-extenders/
then you can sort extenders by features you'd like. (access point mode isn't on there)
Once you've narrowed it to a few devices. Just pick the one you want and look up its manual (netgear.com/support/)
In the manual it'll tell how to turn access point mode on if its got it. Most of them do but its always good to check. (its mostly the base model devices)
again, or you can buy a router and run it in Access Point mode. Amazon has some pretty decent prices on renewed routers right now. Plus it gives you a backup router to use if your primary dies. (just make sure its ran in Access Point mode)
