Had the same problem...
What I did...:
1. set the IP of the extender manually (eg. 192.168.2.100 when the router IP is 192.168.2.1), set the IP of PC used for configuration manually to eg. 192.168.2.115, gateway is IP of extender (DNS no matter), then I reseted the extender to "get IP automatically from the router" - the extender kept the IP I set previously (Gateway and DNS both changed itselfs to the IP of the Router), the same with the PC - set get IP from DHCP
2. Connected to my original network
2. reserved the IP of the extender just for it in the router settings
3. and paragraph No.16 of this article http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20934/~/wn1000rp-faqs resolved problems with IP releasing for other devices
4. after that the extender is working and sharing internet connection
Try it.
