WGR614v10 as Access Point, working but reports no internet connection
I have a Netgear WGT624v3 as my main router (172.16.1.1) and it's been setup and working fine for years.
A few days ago, I added a Netgear WGR614v10 as a Wireless Access Point (172.16.1.99) and it appears to be working fine. It has it's own unique SSID and any device connected to it can fully access the internet.
I used these Netgear Setup Instructions.
Now I have two totally different questions:
1. The WGR614v10 checks for firmware updates on login and this fails because it reports, "no internet connection". The time-stamp on the log screen is also stuck on 2003. Strange how the router can supply an Internet connection to any connected device yet not be able to find the Internet for its own use. Is there a workaround or solution for this?
2. Now that I have two overlapping wireless zones, each with their own SSID, I move around with my portable devices like iPod, etc. However, when I move from one zone to another, I must manually select the new access point within the iPod's settings. Is there a clever alternative to the way I'm using this. It's starting to get annoying because when I move from one zone to another, the device seems to just hang on to the weak signal. It would be nice for this to automatically switch to the stronger one somehow. I suppose I should just wait until the iPod drops the weak signal on its own but this is not consistent. I guess I'm stretching here because I don't think there's a good solution. I already looked at Wireless Repeater mode for the WGR614, but my WGT624 does not have this option.
Thank-you!

Re: WGR614v10 as Access Point, working but reports no internet connection
WGR614 is NOT access point. It is super -G 802.11G router
belongs to http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=34
setup may access point but wrong place to post.
1. NO... it uses internet port ONLY.. you have to manually download firmware
2. No with different model. Even with same SSID on same model can be an issues. Roaming aggressiveness (google ) is what can cause to hop.
