WNR2000v1, Macbook Pro, and Slow Connection Speeds

The short version: I would like to know if the WNR2000v1 router is known to have substantially slower speeds with OSX 10.7.5 and if not, what is going on and how do I fix it?

The long version and troubleshooting that I have done:
I am experiencing a strange issue when I connect my Macbook Pro (13" late 2011 model with OSX 10.7.5) and to the WNR2000v1 that I use for my home network. When connected to the network via Wi-Fi the speed is very slow. I have seen between 1-4 mb/s depending on the settings that I changed to try and fix this problem. My regular speed is between 15-20 mb/s. When I connect the macbook directly the router via a network cable speeds are as they should be. When I use my IPhone (IOS 6 & speedtest.net app) or if I use another laptop (with Windows 7) speeds are also as they should be. If I take my macbook to another house and connect to their network speeds are as they should be (probably not hardware). I bought my macbook in March and everything was working as expected until August or thereabouts.

I tried to fix the issue myself but none of the solutions I found on the 'net fixed my issue. I then called Apple Care and talked to 2 different people. A general support tech and a wireless support tech. Neither of them were able to fix the issue. After I finished talking to Apple Care I deleted the old partition and created a new one. While I was in the "Internet Recovery" mode I was able to open a browser and perform a speed test and once again I received the same results (thus probably not software). Then I did a fresh clean install of OSX 10.7.4 and performed a speed test and still received the same results. I called Apple Care to see if they might be able to help me now that I had some new information. They were not able to fix the problem but we determined that the problem probably lies between the router and my macbook (the only thing that makes sense at this point). I tried updating the firmware manually but this did not fix the problem. Firmware is: V1.2.3.7NA

My friend has a Macbook Air with 10.7.5 that I am going to test on the router tonight. Most of the settings on the router are still set as default. I do have a desktop (Windows 7) with a static IP address and I added some portfowarding. The network uses WPA2-PSK [AES] for security.

I would like to know if this router is known to have problems with OSX 10.7.5 and if not, what is going on and how do I fix it?
