Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

I cannot connect to my friends party with my Netgear XR500. I have my Xbox on energy Saving mode and my router is updated.
Netgear needs to fix this! Anyone have any suggestions?

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

Are you using the Geo-Filter? If so:

  • Set Geo-Filter to Spectating Mode
  • Turn off Auto Ping Host
  • Join the party with your friends
  • Click on your friends on the map, name them and press ALLOW

Now when you use the Geo-Filter, they should be allowed through.

Is there any other options? I can't even connect to them after disconnecting geo filter and auto ping. So frustrating.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

If you can't connect to them with the Geo-Filter disabled then this points to a potential NAT issue. What is your NAT Type shown in the console network settings?

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

I actually have another router that works fine so I know the router is having the issue. Can't believe I spend almost 300 on a plastic paper weight.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

Could you provide a screenshot of the entire Geo-Filter page please when you're trying to add this person to a party chat (use imgur). There should be no reason this doesn't work if the Geo-Filter is properly disabled and NAT Type is open.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

How do I fully disable geo filter? I had to add Xbox to have the geo filter to spectate

So it was never added in the first place when you encountered the issue? Just remove any devices from the Geo-Filter.

It has been off the geo filter untill I added it earlier today. The problem is still there either way.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

What is your physical setup? E.g. ISP router/modem > XR500 How is the ISP router setup? What message do you get when you're unable to join?

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

It's the router hooked up to Ethernet (fiber optic internet). When I try and join party it says router settings are preventing you from joining

Nothing pops op on the map because I can't even connect to them. All I see is the blank geo filter.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

The XR500 would have to be connected to a router/modem, do you know what model it is? The Geo-Filter is disabled that's fine which is why it is blank, just meant the Xbox error so thanks for that. Can you put the Xbox IP address in the XR500 DMZ in WAN Settings please and see if that resolves it.

I'm absolutely never spending money on Netgear again. This product has done nothing but help give me a hernia.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

So you have an ethernet cable that just comes out of the wall then, do you have an ONT? Can you try it directly connected to the wall and see if it occurs please.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

I've seen many others with this issue. Netgear or Xbox needs to address this because I spent a lot of money on this thing just to play xbox and it doesn't work. If I wanted a regular router I wouldn't spend $300 on a specific gaming router!!! Might as well say doesn't connect to friends on the box because that's what I bought! Unbelievable. I just bought a new linksys router so I'll throw this waste of space away.

Re: Help! Xbox not connecting to friends party

I believe that if you're using an ONT you might need to put something into the VLAN settings.
