Yes you can, no it can be done from the router without having to do that.
Okay great, keep us updated with what happens!

Still losing Internet connection, seems that the intervals in between are longer now though. As to your suggestion, how do I know the static IP to set? According to my ISP only upgrading to a business account has the ability for static IP. Is there another way?

I would revert to v32 FW version on the XR router.
Most ISPs will not allow for static WAN IPs to be set unless you pay for it or comes on there Business class packages.
Can you try a different ISP modem? Arris TMs are not the greatest.

Try going back one firmware as Furry suggested, and then see if it's better:

Downgrading the firmware seems to have worked. I'll post again if it restarts.
Since it happened with two different modems by different manufacturers, any idea if this might be fixed in a later version?
I'd hate to never be able to update my firmware again.

v40 seems to have problems with some users. I presume NG will be making changes.
Your ok to run v32 if it works for you and it provides all you need. You don't always have to update. Unless there maybe some security concerns.

I expect the version after .40 will be more stable, so you should be ok to upgrade to it once it's released.
