My Netgear nighthawk router did not work well
The functions of parential controls suck very very much. The new version firmware improved a little bit, but still suck. Let me tell you what happened to me.
1. The router could not block any porn website well. One day, I identified my 12-year-old boy visited pornhub. Immidiately, I input the website into block list on both genie, opendns and local setting. However, the ridiculous thing was my boy visited the website again and easily. It is complicated that Netgear created genie, opendns and local setting to set a router, but none of them worked.
2. To prevent my boy from visiting the undesirable websites, I have to block the computer from Wifi sometime. At beginning, it worked well. However, right now, no matter what I did, the computer was blocked from the router permanently. I tried anything I could do to solve this issue, but nothing changed. What a fantastic router!
3. The netgear genie also sucks. It could not run in Windows 11 and it never was updated. I have to run a old computer with windows 10 to run genie. If netgear did not try to maintain genie, why did not netgear assign its corresponding function to the local setting?
4. The nighhawk app sucks. Mine is a Android version. It linked router super super slow. That was not the painest till the app could not be logged in. I bought a "NETGEAR WiFi Mesh Range Extender EX6150" and tried to set up it with the app. The app might be confused by identifying both the extender and the router so it became keeping showing "your request timed out" after I switched my devices whatever if I clicked the sign-in button or create-accout button.
