what kind of NAT it hardware or software ?

Can be both. HW for accelleration for higher ISP speeds. Software to control kinds of NAT NG routers can use.

Hard to tell what NG uses. I would presume it would be HW since these routers do support 1Gb ISP speeds and HW NAT cut thru is needed to achieve these speeds.

thank you, but I would like to know for sure, they say that asus ac87 hardware NAT, I'm just used to netgear and do not want to take asus. I don't know what to do now

You might try asking someone over on smallnetbuilders. I looked over there and they didn't do a full on test and review of the XR500. They usually know weather or not a router is using HW nat or not. I don't know if any one from NG will answer this. You might contact one of the forum moderators to see. 

On the other hand, why not try one out. Amazon and other places online have too return polilcies. You can try one out and see if it works to your liking, if not, return it. No hard no foul.

If ping is what you're concerned about then the other features on the XR500 are what will keep your ping as low as possible.
