NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
I’m pulling my hair out here.Ive spent a fortune on this router but can’t get it working at all.Im probably not as clued up as you guys so be kind I really need help.
I’m vdsl fibre from the cabinet so don’t have a modem on the wall so I needed a modem or a modem router in bridge mode.I read in one of the forums that the bt openreach modem would work.Bought one but for the love of me can’t get the internet light to turn from orange to white.please some one help.

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
If so, make sure you do this on the router?
If you connect directly to your BT hub, do you get Internet?

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
Ok sorry your post didnt show you had bought a BT modem earlier for some reason... You should attach that to the wall if possible to keep it cool if its a HG612 as they run warm, but apart from that you plug it into the socket from your wall for FTTC into the port called DSL then from the modem port Lan 1 into the WAN (yellow) port on the back of the XR500. You then enter your username and password for your ISP in the settings when promted by the XR500 when you set it up

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
I had done that already, username and password for what?to get into router settings or log into internet. My gripe is this, the internet light is flashing orange so can’t do the set up wizard thing at the start because when it spins at the start it comes up with “can’t detect internet”.i need someone to run me through step by step instructions cause at the mo I have an expensive ugly ass router sat on my living room floor collecting dust 😢😢

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
The BT modem should pick up VDSL so does it show two green lights? Is it plugged into where the old router was plugged in? Does that have a dangly filter or a filtered faceplate? The username and password are what you use to log into your ISP. The XR500 will have an orange light untill you set it up with your ISP's username and password. Have you already logged into the XR500 before then and skipped the setup process?

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
Can you confirm your service is not pure fibre, I thought Lightstream was pure fibre only? In which case you would have to use the router you have but change settings, are you sure you have FTTC (Fibre from the cabinet)

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
right lets do thsi one step at a time. Is the BT modem showing three green lights or two? Have you tried starting the setup process on the XR500? When you plug the modem into the XR500 it launcehes a setup page has that happened or did you play with the XR500 first and not do that? I'm just trying to find out where you are 🙂

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
So you have copper from the cab? Thats VDSL or if its fibre all the way its FTTP and a standard BT modem would not do that. What does the BT modem say on the back, can you give me what its called ie is it a HG612 or a ECI or is it something else?

Re: NightHawk Xr 500 pro gaming
reset the XR500 there is a reset hole in the back press that for 10 seconds with something like a bent paper clip. wait for a few minutes while it resets. Then launch your browser. Now do you know your internet username and password?
