No internet with XR500 following ISP change in DHCP

Hi,

French ISP Orange is currently rolling out an update in their DHCP management (see https://lafibre.info/remplacer-livebox/durcissement-du-controle-de-loption-9011-et-de-la-conformite-... in french but it will probably be readable with any translation service).

Since March 1st I can't use my XR500 and I must use my old and low-end internet box from Orange (Livebox 3).

Is there a way to way to configure my XR500 to make it work again ?

If not, were you aware of this update on their side and do you plan to relase a new firmware that support this now management ?

Thank you for any help you can provide.

Has a power off for 1 minute then back ON with the ISP modem and router been performed since last update?
Be sure to restart your network in this sequence:
Turn off and unplug modem.
Turn off router and computers.
Plug in and turn on modem. Wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on the router and wait 2 minutes for it to connect.
Turn on computers and rest of network.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since last FW update? A complete pull of the power adapters for a period of time after the factory reset then walk thru the setup wizard and setup from scratch with a wired PC and web browser. Recommend setting the default DHCP IP address pool range to the following after applying and a factory reset: 192.168.#.100 to 192.168.#.200.

If your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers

3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

Something to also contact the ISP about.

Re: No internet with XR500 following ISP change in DHCP

Have you been using the XR500 directly connected to the wall or with a pure modem? If so then yes it doesn't look like it will work now and you'd need to use the livebox in between with the XR behind it for it to work. I can then put in a request for Netgear to implement that but may be best to make a ticket with Netgear directly about it.

Re: No internet with XR500 following ISP change in DHCP

Yes the XR500 was directly connected to the ONT while the livebox from Orange was resting in its box. I was very happy by the way it worked as I had a better wifi and only one device (ok two with the ONT) to manage everything.

I will open a ticket with Netgear support hoping they can implement the new fields required in DHCP v4 and v6 some day in the futur.

Thank you.

Re: No internet with XR500 following ISP change in DHCP

Does the ISP require a specific WAN port configuration for any router to be used with the ONT or is it just DHCP.

Might try a reboot or power cycle of the XR router while connected to the ONT while it's ON. Should work if the ISP and ONT configure DHCP on there services.

Re: No internet with XR500 following ISP change in DHCP

The ONT has only one ethernet port dedicated to be linked to the WAN port of the ISP router (named livebox at Orange) or any third party routeur compliant with the way they grand access to their network.

The XR500 get an IP like 172.19.x‧y and diplays that there is no internet connexion. According to what I've read this is the symptom of the activation of their new DHCP policy.

There is a lot of ressources in french communities to configure an Openwrt router, and how to manage this change of DHCP policy to replace the livebox but I'm too old for this **bleep**, that was my goal when I bought the XR500 four years ago.

I will setup the XR500 behind the livebox as a fancy wifi access point until a firmware update that may fix my issue.

Re: No internet with XR500 following ISP change in DHCP

Does the ISP router have a IP Pass Thru or DMZ feature, if so, try configuring this for the IP address that the XR router gets from the ISP router. IF fails, then of course AP mode should work. Seems to be an ISP issue though.
