Router blocks IPv4 traffic from several PCs and other wierdness

I have been having network issues going on 1yr now.  I have tried everything I can think of to resolve the issues.

Two issues are the most concerning and may be related.

1) Sometimes the router loses all IPv4 traffic from 3 of my PCs.  I can ping the local NAS and the router itself but any of the websites that are IPv4 only are not reachable.  All IPv6 traffic seems to go through without issue (I can hit www.yahoo.com and www.cnn.com).  The Phones and smart TVs in the house have no issues whatsoever.  This outage will last a long time and will resolve itself without any discernable action on my part.  I have logged into the router via a wired connection during these times and seen that traceroutes are just lost to the ether.  Pings will fail.

2) During the outages listed in #1, my router will not display the proper login splash page.  Even though the router is from netgear, I will be presented with a Linksys router login page on the PCs that have issues.  If I use the right credentials, the login page just refreshes and doesn't login.  Using my phone, I am presented with the proper login page and after entering hte same credentials, the normal router status page is shown.  I have found that logging in with the phone to the router clears ALL issues with the 3 PCs in question.  The network traffic works again as normal and they can login via http://192.168.0.1 or the http://www.routerlogin.net.

I have Comcast as a provider and my router is listing Firmware Version V3.01.43 as the firmware version.  This doesn't match the https://kb.netgear.com/000036375/What-s-the-latest-firmware-version-of-my-NETGEAR-cable-modem-or-mod... listing which is disconcerting.

I have talked at length with the terrible help support from Comcast.  They just reset my router which makes it work for the 5 minutes that they are on the phone but the issue always comes back.

I have also replaced my router earlier with this new Nighthawk version because the previous Aerris router was seeing the same issues.

2 of the PCs are work provided and have strong and capable antivirus on them.  The 3rd PC is a personal one and I have replaced the AV in hopes that it was just a conflict or an outdated version of that conflicting with network traffic scanning but to no avail.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Router blocks IPv4 traffic from several PCs and other wierdness

Usually when 2 different router/combo devices (and they're even from different manufacturer's) are have the same issue, it tends not to be an issue with the device itself. Its usually the computer setup or your isp's settings.

1. have you tried changing dns providers? You could try google's at 8.8.8.8  or 8.8.4.4   or cloudfare's at 1.1.1.1

2. you're other option kind of goes back to comcast. If you google IPv4 sites not working, the most popular results (and there's a bunch) are about comcast ipv4 issues. There's even a thread with a direct contact at comcast that helps fix these issues. I'd probably try that route. Read through the post (its 6 pages long) for the fixes, tips, as well as ways to contact the people who know what's going on within comcast.
