Using XR500 with wifi clients connecting through multiple gateways
Hi Everyone,
I have a very specific technical question about the XR500. I currently have another wifi AP from another vendor which cannot do what I need so I want to find out if the XR500 can do it before I buy it. So, the plan is to use the XR500 as a simple access point on my home network. I use two different ISPs to connect to the Internet. On some wifi devices I want to use the first ISP so the gateway on the wifi device (phone, laptop, etc...) will be set to the first IPS's gateway/modem (ex. 192.168.10.1). On other wifi devices I want to use the second ISP's gateway/modem (192.168.10.2).
So, this question is for all of you that use the XR500 on a network with multiple ISPs. Can someone please put your XR500 in AP mode and try setting manualy the ip address and the gateway on your phone or laptop to the first and then to the second ISP router/modem and tell me if you can successfully connect to the internet through both gateways? My current AP only allows traffic to the router/gateway that is set in it's network configuration. For example I can only get traffic to go to the internet and back through 192.168.10.1 because it is the same one set as gateway on the AP. If I change the gateway on the AP to 192.168.10.2 then I can set that same gateway on my wifi device and access the internet but I can no longer set 192.168.10.1 as it will no longer work.
Does the XR500 have the same problem?
Thank you very much in advance for all your efforts.

Re: Using XR500 with wifi clients connecting through multiple gateways
Though the XR series routers support AP mode. When it AP mode this makes any XR router just a wifi AP only. You'll not have any access to the gaming features of the XR series router when in AP mode. This kind makes for an expesive wireless AP and not take advantage of it's gaming features. When in AP mode, it would be connected only to one or the other gateways at a time.
If your only looking for a wireless AP, why not put up a EX series extender and configure AP mode on it and use this for wireless. EX series extenders support wired AP mode and would probably work better for your wireless needs. I have two EX7700 that work well in wired AP mode and with out any gaming features that would cost extra and would be of no use if you use the XR in AP mode.
