Re: Wan port or not
On the bright box, connect the WAN port to your phone line/modem, and connect one of the LAN ports to your XR500.
Now on the bright box, turn off wifi, give the XR500 a reserved IP, and put it into the DMZ.

Re: Wan port or not
Remove the Static IP address from the xbox and set a IP address reservation for the xbox ON the router. It's not recommend to have a static and reserved IP address for same device. It's one or the other, not both. Both can cause problems.

Re: Wan port or not
If you set the IP as reserved on the router, then the router will give it the same IP address every time.
An IP address reservation makes the router keep the IP unoccupied ready for the Xbox.
A static IP is more like the Xbox demanding an IP that the router might not have at the ready.

Re: Wan port or not
Looks like you have a router built in to your ISP Modem already. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem.
