XR500 and BT Fibre 900 FFTP
Hi all, Reading through the forums and online it looks like there is a common fault with the XR500 with them being capped to 550mb/s. I have spoken to BT and they have confirmed im getting 935mb...

Yeah Via ethernet, Cat6 cable from router to first unit and 5e from second unit to PC.

Powerline adapters rely on the quality of the wiring in your walls so that's not too uncommon. Are you able to have the BT hub handle PPPoE so you can remove that from the XR?
- GidgriffJun 11, 2021Guide
HI Fraser,
Yeah i assumed that might be the case with the powerlines so they have now been put away.
Unfortunately the BT Hub doesnt allow that. Like I said, I've read a few threads now where people have had issues with XR's and PPPoE at these high speeds. So im very cautious at buying a new Netgear Router if im going to have the exact same issues.

Are you not able to configure PPPoE settings on the BT Hub like you have done on the XR?

Hi guys, me again!
I gave up on the XR500 and bought a R8000 instead. I have never had so many issues trying to set up a router in my entire life. Tried setting up via the Nighthawk app like it tells me to, and even though im connected to the router via WIFI the app cant find the router. Tried it via ethernet, wont find the routerlogin page and just gives me an error that im not connected to the internet. I have tried clearing cache, didnt do anything. Any suggestions? - Netduma-LiamJun 16, 2021NetDuma Partner
OK sorry to hear that, this forum is actually for support of DumaOS powered routers so we won't really be able to provide any advice on the R8000, perhaps consider creating a new topic at the below forum for support:

Hi Liam,
Im back, the X6 wasnt for me. The menu system, everything is awful compared to the XR so im committed to making this work now.
I have put the Smart Hub 2 back in and connected the XR to it and placed the Ethernet cable into Ethernet Port 1 (Internet port was just showing red) and turned the WIFI off on the Smart Hub2. Not sure why but the XR shows no internet on the Hub but will let me connect and do a speed test (better speeds) but wont let me open any webpages 'says no internet connection'. When i try and go on the XR router page it just says ' You are no longer connected to your router. If your router is rebooting then keep this page open as it will automatically reconnect to the router's interface when the reboot is complete. Otherwise please check your connection e.g. you are connected to the correct router.'Any ideas or settings you can suggest I try?
- Netduma-FraserJun 18, 2021NetDuma PartnerYou'll need to put the ethernet from the LAN port in the BT Hub to the internet port in the XR otherwise you won't get internet. Once you've done that reboot the XR. If you have internet directly connected to the hub then you shouldn't need to enter PPPoE details into the XR

Hi Frazer,
Thought that may be the case. Shall I remove the PPPoE logins from the XR menu before connecting it to the Smart Hub? Or will it do it automatically?
- Netduma-FraserJun 18, 2021NetDuma PartnerYou would need to remove it manually, unless you have factory reset and running through the wizard the first time, which after reconnecting it again after awhile might be a good idea.

Not sure whats going on if im honest. I have turned the PPPoE settings off on my XR, its connected via the internet port to the Smart Hub 2, all blue lights on and wont even let me on the Router menu and says no internet connection. Even after a reset?

www.netgear.com unexpectedly closed the connection.
Try:
- Checking the connection
- Checking the proxy and the firewall
- Running Windows Network Diagnostics
ERR_CONNECTION_CLOSEDThats what im getting when im trying to set up the router after the reset. - Netduma-FraserJun 18, 2021NetDuma PartnerYou need to go to http://192.168.1.1 or http://routerlogin.net and you should be able to access to setup
- GidgriffJun 18, 2021Guide
Got about half way through set up and my screen went white and had a symbol and this - www.netgear.com unexpectedly closed the connection.
And now it wont go passed this and goes to this screen every time i click on the link to go through to set up :(
- GidgriffJun 18, 2021Guide
Had to do it on my mobile for some reason, weird!
Ok so its on and working, WIFI is off on Smart Hub2 and the speeds are still the same, if not a little lower.
Any settings I need to change on the Duma? QOS is still off.
- Netduma-FraserJun 18, 2021NetDuma PartnerIf you factory reset then QoS will be on even if any settings haven't changed, click the 3 line icon on the top left of Congestion Control and tick the box to disable speedtest and then see what speeds you get.
- GidgriffJun 18, 2021Guide
Hi Fraser,
Sorry, I meant I had turned it off again.
With it on - 300
With it off - 290/300
Whats weird, is earlier when I was trying to get the XR connected initially. I put the ethernet cable into the Ethernet port 1 (Not internet) and although the actual webpages werent loading I was getting 660mbs on a speed test. Which is the speeds id be expecting to see really.
- Netduma-FraserJun 18, 2021NetDuma PartnerThat is odd, okay lets try this, go to routerlogin.net/debug.htm then select the option to change the WAN port to port 1, then switch the internet cable to port 1 and then retest your speeds
- GidgriffJun 19, 2021Guide
Tried it, same speeds :(
- Netduma-FraserJun 19, 2021NetDuma PartnerOkay so nothing to do with the ports, you can switch that option off and change the cable back. Then can you put the XR in AP mode please and see what speeds you get then? This essentially disables DumaOS entirely and so gives us a better idea of where the issue may be.
