XR500 and X4S on the same network. Need help please
Hello All
Right now I have an X4s doing the work of both the modem and router. I have also an XR500 on the shelf that I can use.
What I want to do:
My brother and his family live upstairs, me and my family live downstairs. I want to share the one cable internet between both of us. We both will be using smart home devices like light switches and Alexa so I want two separate networks. How is the best way to accomplish this?
I know the xr500 has AP mode however I would loose 80% of its features as a gaming router and I hate to do that.
Thanks for any suggestions.
Tim

Not sure what the X4S is.
But you could go
modem---XR500 (in router mode)-----X4S (in AP mode)
That'd preserve the gaming features of the xr500 and allow the brothers to run off the x4s in ap mode.

Try putting the C7800 in modem only mode:

Then you can use the XR as the main router.

Then run the C7800 in gateway mode and use the modems DMZ for the XR500.
If you run both wifi, be sure to use manual channels far apart on each unit.

Then what is the X4S?
If you're wanting separate systems leave the primary router as main and leave the 2nd on in router mode and put its ip address into the 1st one's dmz. Or just leave it in a double nat.

The X4S is a C7800, modem version of the R7800.

Missed that in the relies.
You can either run a double nat or put the XR500's ip address into the C7800's dmz.
Up to you which route you go.
Just make sure to have the Xr500 and the C7800 on different wireless channels to prevent interference.
