Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

You can try recovering it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10

and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9DLrLQrpaw

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash
https://github.com/jclehner/nmrpflash

Unplug the router from power for 10 minutes, plug in, wait 2 minutes and see if you can access, if not hold the reset for 30 seconds, release, wait 2 minutes and try again please.

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

@Netduma-Fraser @plemans after holding reset for 30 sec and releasing it the solid red light goes off completely, I have to push on off button to get solid red light glowing again ,

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

Sounds like it could be completely faulty, if TFTP method above doesn't work then I'd recommend contacting Netgear directly: http://support.netgear.com/

@Netduma-Fraser had a talk to customer service, they have done trouble shooting steps and they say your not in warranty and this device is dead and cannot be repaired.... i am ready to pay out of warranty charges but they are denying completely, device cannot be repaired

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

Sorry to hear that and sorry we're not able to give you any suggestions that will work. You could try unplugging the router from power for 24 hours, we've seen that can help in the past bring dead routers back to life

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

When you reboot the router does the power button start flashing orange? That may be why the TFTP isn't working.

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

No the orange light stands still, blinks once after 10 seconds and still , if reset pressed for 30 sec then the organs light goes off completely till I press power  on /off button

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

You could try the 30/30/30 method which we don't usually advise:
With the router plugged in and powered on, press the reset button for 30 seconds. While still holding down the button, unplug the router from power for 30 seconds. With the reset button still held down, plug in the power back hold for another 30 seconds. Then lot go, wait 2 minutes and see if it works.

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

If that doesn't work, try the nmrpflash I linked to earlier. It sometimes works when tftp doesn't.

Re: XR500 dead due to reboot

If you've tried everything and can't recover the router, the router is probably bad and needs replaceing. You'll need to contact NG support and see what your options are: https://my.netgear.com/support/contact.aspx
