When should we expect a firmware update for the PLEX server?

Unfortunately that's not something I can tell you as a member of the Netduma team, we don't have any input on the NETGEAR features like the USB functionalities. There is new firmware in the works and we're nearing it's release, but unfortunately I can't confirm whether there will be any upgrades/updates to Plex.

My Netgear Nightawk XR700 requires an update to Plex Server version for live tv.

Current Version 1.22.3.4392 Minimum Required is 1.24.4 or higher.

when will there be a firmware update for the plex server?

Your Plex Media Server version is up to date.

Gaming routers have their own DumaOS operating system that is nothing like the one on Netgear's standard routers.

I will ask the Netgear moderator to move your message.

In the meantime you could visit the support pages:

Feed in your model number and check the documentation for your hardware. Look at the label on the device for the model number.

Check for various troubleshooting tips.

You may have done this already. I can't tell from your message.

I mention it because Netgear stopped supplying printed manuals and CD versions some years ago and people sometimes miss the downloads.

This is a recurring issue over the years with no obvious path to even contact Netgear
For the required update unfortunately

now i am getting an error message that server version Required is 1.24.4 or higher for live TV.

any way to nudge netgear? or how to contact someone at netgear about this recurring issue?

last update was  version 1.22.3.4392 dated April 19, 2021

I don't now where you tried before, but as long as you to ask in the right place the path for support for devices with DumaOS, is usually short and rapid.

The DumaOS team has no reason to look out for every message posted in the wrong place. There are just too many messages to keep up.

Post in this section and you rarely have to wait long. Of course, lobbing in a request late on Friday, just before the weekend, isn't the best timing if you want instant replies.

I'd recommend making a ticket with Netgear directly https://my.netgear.com/support/contact.aspx meanwhile I'll see if we can ask someone at Netgear to see if they can get this sorted

I placed a ticket after several attempts going in circles I finally was able to get a ticket by leaving out my serial number.  hopefully one or both approaches will get a response,

Netgear does the Plex updates through the firmware update process.

there is no other known  way to get it updated unless Netgear makes it available.

It has been well over a year since the last plex update.

please try to get a ticket with netgear.

Since there is no ETA, we cannot provide an exact date for the new firmware. Hence, we suggest to close the case for the mean time and you will automatically receive updates if there is a new firmware if you're subscribed to receive updates from Netgear
