Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

ISP: xfinity

Internet Plan: Blast! Pro + Internet (speeds up to 400Mbps)

Replaced my AC1750 cable modem router (c6300) that was previously on the same xfinity internet plan. Speedtest.net tested wifi at a consistent +450Mbps down / 11.5Mbps up. Laptop hardwired in Speedtest.net tested again at a consistent +450Mbps down / 11.5Mbps up. Both with consistent 19ms ping, 2.2ms jitter, and 0% packet loss.

However, my hardwired ps5 Test Internet Connection test results were not as good, with inconsistent numbers ranging from 89-270Mbps down / 500Kbps-11Mbps up. Ps5 over wifi was consistent at 120Mbps down / 11Mbps up. (note: I've tried multiple ca6 cables with no luck)

The purpose of purchasing the CM2000 and XR1000 was to get greater consistent speeds that I'm paying Xfinity for. I've restarted both the modem and router numerous times and ran speedtest.net inbetween with no change in data. The odd part is that the XR1000  Duma OS has a Connection Benchmark feature and when I run the test it reads:

Down: 387Mbps

Up: 12Mbps

Average ping: 17.3ms

Jitter: 0.63ms

Packet loss: 0.00%

Ping Test (under load)

Download: 36.51ms

Upload: 46.08ms

Idle: 18.19

XR1000 firmware version: V1.0.0.58_1.0.44

Why am I not achieving equalto or greater speeds with my new set up over my previous dated modem/router combo??

Help.

Thanks for posting, is it just the PS5 that's not seeing full speeds through the XR1000? Do you have any other wired/wireless devices that are also seeing slower speeds?

None of my devices are no longer achieving decent speed. I’ve ran speedtest.net on my work laptop, personal laptop, and iPhone. Prior to the switch in equipment I was getting much much better speeds. My main reasons for switching was to hopefully help my ps5 achieve greater speed and to future proof for Gig or fiber internet later down the line.

Have you configured QoS? If you completely disable it from the three-line menu in Congestion Control, do speeds then increase?

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

i just disabled QoS and my ps5 did achieve better speeds, but it wasn't as consistent across all devices as I'd hoped.

Test ran between 8:00a - 10:30am

PS5 hardwired

Test 1: 426Mbps/11.5Mbps

Test 2: 395Mbps/11.7Mbps

Test 3: 372Mbps/11.7Mbps

iPhone 11 Pro (speedtest.net app) wifi

Test 1: 309Mbps/11.7Mbps

Test 2: 337Mbps/11.7Mbps

Test 3: 453Mbps/11.2Mbps

Macbook Pro (Late 2011) wifi

Test 1: 224.48Mbps/11.64Mbps

Test 2: 266.30Mbps/11.65Mbps

Test 3: 267.63Mbps/11.85Mbps

Macbook Pro (Late 2011) hardwired with same cat6 ethernet cable from PS5

Test 1: 475.70Mbps/11.69Mbps

Test 2: 474.39Mbps/11.60Mbps

Test 3: 475.56Mbps/11.84Mbps

Kind of a let down that QoS has to be turned off in order to achieve better speeds. I was looking forward to the QoS feature because both my brother and myself game and I wanted to utilize it to help with lag and such. I'm on the PS5 and he's on PC.

How can I configure QoS to achieve equalto or better speeds that my previous dated modem/router?

Devices on my network:

2 smartphones (wifi)

1 smart tv (wifi)

2 laptops (wifi)

PC (wifi)

PS5 (hardwired)

2 security cameras (wifi)

wall ac unit (wifi)

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

It seems to me there is an inherent inconsistency in your speeds anyway - you expect up to 400Mbps and yet get up to 475Mbps. The router won't allow you to get any more than they are outputting to you. What speeds did you enter into Bandwidth Settings?

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

QoS is currently disabled, but bandwith setting were set to 100% and that setting didn't perform as expected. I also tested the speed to my PS5 by allocating all bandwidth and adding it to the Traffic Prioritizaion list. Again, poor speed and performance which doesn't make much sense since it should have all been going to the ps5 via LAN. Why would utilizing the QoS feature reduce speed and performance?

Also speed flucuations between 50-100Mbps doesn't make sense with my new equipment. I figured that a 32x8 docsis 3.1 with a wifi 6 gaming router would provide more stable speeds for all devices.Screen Shot 2021-08-20 at 11.51.58 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-08-20 at 11.56.43 AM.pngScreen Shot 2021-08-20 at 11.58.48 AM.png

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

Sorry I mean what speeds did you tell it you have - it's in the same menu where you disable QoS fully. How did you add it to Traffic Prioritization exactly as the Games Console service won't include the ports necessary to prioritize speed tests as the gaming bandwidth is more important. Bandwidth Allocation just allocates bandwidth between devices, it doesn't force them to use it so if any other devices were using the bandwidth it would get whatever is left. I can't see the screenshots you've added as they need to be moderated, can you attach them?

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

I just looked at the setting you mentioned, and I had not touched it previously. When I just opened it it's currently set at 387.52Mbps/12.5Mbps. Would it be better for me to raise the Bandwidth Speeds to the speeds that are actually being tested via Speedtest.net? I had tested the played with the Congestion Control per some other forums and had it set at 70%, which didn't help at all. How I added it was I found and labeled my PS5 under the Device Manager, then added new device to Traffic Prioritization. I reuploaded the images as JPEG.Screen Shot 2021-08-20 at 5.37.26 PM.jpgScreen Shot 2021-08-20 at 5.30.48 PM.jpgScreen Shot 2021-08-20 at 5.31.06 PM.jpgScreen Shot 2021-08-20 at 5.30.40 PM.jpg

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

Yes definitely set the speeds to what speedtest is showing at full speeds. It will be limiting the speeds you're getting and also QoS would be too restrictive. The way you added it the speed test wouldn't have been prioritized. I mean attached as in you choose file/upload it from the reply box otherwise they still need to be moderated or you can upload to imgur.com or an equivalent and post the link here

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

That makes sense. I'll reenable QoS and adjust the bandwidth speed.

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

Thanks for that, when you re-enable QoS, also disable all the Traffic Prio rules, they seem to be active when they shouldn't be and also not optimal. If you do want to use Prio, then for a wired device, use the normal option, not Gaming/Voice, use that option for a wireless device that is gaming instead. You can enable Apply to WAN for each also.

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

Perfect. I've adjusted the settings. Will these adjustments help maintain speed and performance while gaming? PS5 and PC typically game at the same time. I appreciate the help so far.

Re: Xfinity speeds now half with upgrade to CM2000 modem + XR1000 router

They will definitely help give you a better gaming experience, won't necessarily help with the speeds - the speeds shown by the console are an estimate and are not always accurate. With gaming you don't need much speed, 1Mbps is plenty
