Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
So, I decided to try Geo-filtering on Destiny 2 again. I understand you can’t filter players. However, you should be able to filter servers. I put the radius around my servers that are closest to me. How do I know if I connect to one of them? I see a bunch of players pop up but how do I know if I’m connecting to the servers I circled?

The biggest icon on the map will be the server, it should be within your radius, it will also trigger auto ping to ping the server

Well, I’ve noticed a couple things. There will be a bunch of users that pop up everywhere.some with circles around them. A small square white icon that will pop up nowhere near me. It’s like in Pennsylvania whereas I’m in Oklahoma. I never see a larger server icon, but I do see a large user icon. I’m assuming that larger user icon is me?

Also what is ping assist? I’m confused on what that actually is/does? I circle the two servers near me. They are in Texas. Then I turn on strict mode and auto ping off so I can click anything that may be blocked. Because I disconnect from matches before they start and I don’t know exactly what’s blocked. So I wait to see.

Excuse I meant to ask what is auto ping? Because if it’s in I can’t allow or deny anything. But how does it help me or give me information?

Re: Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
You don't appear on the map so it will be the host/server just misclassified.
I'm fairly confident they did some updates that prevented the Geo-Filter working so I don't think it will always work. However, disable strict mode as that will help filtering - you may get games outside your radius but that's the best you can do I think.
Auto ping automatically pings the host/server to provide you with ping information, it just prevents you having to click the server manually to ping.
Also if you change options while you're already on the game it won't work very well at all, disable strict mode then start up the game and see if it is any better.

Re: Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
Okay will try that. Question… so I know Bungie went to a hybrid system where you have to connect to their servers now. But, how do you actually know if the filtering is working. So, what I tend to do is start the geo filter. Circle around the servers I want, and then start Destiny 2. I can see a bunch of different stuff pop up on the map. A server always pops up all the way near New York and then disappears. I’m currently in Tx, and there’s always a huge icon right there. I figured that was me and I would be hosting the matches since Destiny is P2P. How do I know if you geo filter is actually working?

Also disable by strict mode would essentially render filtering useless then. That would just allow the game to pick any server at that point correct? Or host?

Disabling strict mode wouldn’t that just render geo filtering useless? Because that allows the game to connect anywhere. The goal I would like is to host the match and play people near me for best ping and connection. I know Destiny changed things so that people couldn’t cheat and match their buddies, but I would assume you should still be able to force the host by geo-filtering, correct?

Re: Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
Not useless no, you may get servers around your radius but shouldn't be crazy far away - with strict enabled though you run the risk of being kicked from the game. I believe they use relay servers now which makes it hard to filter - essentially it would connect to a server within your radius for example and then connects you through that to a server further away - when that happens we can't determine where that is and so can't filter it.
If it is working you'll see a server within your radius.
If it is working you'll see a server within your radius.

Bro i play EA fc 25 and the game gonna kick u out if the server is out of the range… when i play cooperative before start the match kick me out for that reason i disable l the filtering mode because even if u wanna be inside the range the router let u join to servers outside mostly when ur not the partyleader and if u enable strict modes

Re: Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
What I’ve been doing is right when the match connects ie. 6/6 shows up or 12/12, I immediately turn off Strict mode and FILTERING MODE. This allows me to connect to the match without and fear of possibly getting disconnected. Does this trick actually work since I’ve already connected where I wanted to?

Re: Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
It depends, if it's using a relay then you'll still be connecting to that relay and so your ping may still be higher, if it's not using a relay then yes, if it tries to migrate you to a server outside your radius when playing then it won't be blocked so you continue in game. It's certainly not a straightforward one to be able to filter properly.

You could check your ping or latency—lower ping usually means you're connecting to a closer server. Alternatively, use a network monitoring tool to trace the server IP and confirm if it's within your selected region. Destiny 2 doesn't make it super transparent, though.

Re: Xr1000 DumaOS 3.0 how do you know what server you connected to Destiny 2
Well, problem is I play on Xbox. Is there a monitoring tool that will let me see the server from my PC while on Xbox? Because at the moment what I’m doing is drawing or circling the area I want to play in. I actually checked to see where the Destiny 2 servers are and then circled around one. Turn on Strict and Filtering and start the game. Then when I lock in, I turn it off. After the match I always restart the game to make sure it’s properly working. At least when I see the yellow triangles I assume it’s working.

Not easily, the best way would be to just use the Geo-Filter for that purpose
