Indeed, I was already on that version. So it looks like NG have simply consolidated the Hotfix patch into the full download.

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
Any changes for your issue? I have the same router and was experiencing this until late last week. I'm on the most recent firmware version. Must have self healed as I have not had the DNS issue for 2-3 days now.

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
I'm on the latest firmware and I rebooted the router both after the update and just last night. I am STILL getting this issue, Amazon, Google, almost all websites time out for a minute and then work fine.
This issue is NOT fixed for me at least.
Network stuff is supposed to be what NetGear does, and it seems like they can't (or more accurately won't) help fix their products. Kind of get the feeling like NetGear brand has become trash.

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
I see you already have a gateway router with the ISP. Your ISP Modem already has a built in router and wifi. This would be a double NAT (two router) condition which isn't recommended. This would be a double NAT condition which isn't recommended. https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT
https://kb.netgear.com/30187/How-to-fix-issues-with-Double-NAT
Couple of options,
1. Configure the modem for transparent bridge or modem only mode. Then use the NG router in router mode. You'll need to contact the ISP for help and information in regards to the modem being bridged correctly.
2. If you can't bridge the modem, disable ALL wifi radios on the modem, configure the modems DMZ/ExposedHost or IP Pass-Through for the IP address the NG router gets from the modem. https://kb.netgear.com/25891/DMZ-on-NETGEAR-routers
https://kb.netgear.com/24086/How-do-I-set-up-a-default-DMZ-server-on-my-Nighthawk-router
3. Or disable all wifi radios on the modem and connect the NG router to the modem, LAN to LAN configure AP mode on the NG router.

Try option #2 first...
Another test to try to see if the XR router handles differently would be to configure the XR router for AP mode whlie you using the ISP gateway as a router with it's wifi disable and test for DNS issues.
Remove any other 2ndary routers from the mix as well while testing.

By the way, while I've got some knowledgable folks available, what's the best/proper order to connect the following for both network effeciency and to prevent issues like flooding and loops, etc.?
1. Cable Modem: Xfinity XB8 with 4 gigabit ethernet ports
2. Main Router: either NetGear XR1000v2 or the TP-Link Archer C7 AC1750
3. Main Switch: NetGear GS108 8-port unmanaged switch
4. Second Switch: Generic 5-port unmanaged switch
5. Second Router: Archer AX1800
The reason for two routers is because we have extended family staying in an outbuilding (which is hardwired via a single outdoor rated CAT8 130' cable) and they have their own private network (running through my main router and assigned an IP from it), and the second switch is to "split" that CAT8 feed line to their router and my external NetGear ReadyNAS Ultra.
Thanks for your wisdom!

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
How will I know that this latest cloud update has been installed? The current version is as reported above, XR1000v2-V1.1.0.22_2.1.34.
I presume the NH will report a different version to the above?
When I do try it out, I will be configuring the Virgin media box in ‘modem” mode (I.e. no router functions or WiFi) and the NH in router This will replicate the configuration as from last June to four weeks ago.

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
Thanks for your help. This issue began around the same time that I switched from using my own Arris S33 to using Xfinity's XB8, so I originally thought that the new gateway/modem was the cause. I've since ruled that out by switching back to my Arris for a few days and the issue remained.
The XB8 does have bridged mode and I have it enabled which they "claim" completely disables all routing and wi-fi functions. In fact, I even turned bridge mode off which allowed me to set the "advanced" firewall features to custom and I set everything possible to either off or fully open/unrestrictive as possible.
I also switched the XR1000v2 out with my old TP-Link Archer AC1750 for a few days and no device in the entire house experienced the issue, so I'm certain that it's something to do with the XR1000.
The XR1000 has some pretty detailed logs for like DoS attacks, etc., so why is it so difficult to at least figure out and pinpoint the exact root cause? I feel like NG should and could do that very quickly.

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
I didn’t get around to reinstalling the NH last weekend…life interfered LOL.
Can anybody confirm whether the cloud update has actually fixed the problem?

Yes, I already installed the latest firmware and still had issues UNTIL the Cloud update was released. I have NOT had any issues since the Cloud update. Appears that was the culprit.

Re: Xr1000 V2 having DNS issues and unable to connect to websites
Well I finally got around to reinstalling the Nighthawk today.
So far so good, but ask me again in a couple of days time 😄
Inevitably, I suppose, since I deinstalled the NH nearly a month ago, and reverted to running the VM Hub4 in modem/router mode, we have had no issues.
