Re: Xr1000 orange light on lan

which one did the ISP give you? the label should have the model number.

Its more than likely a modem/router combo device. And it causes a double nat.

https://kb.netgear.com/30186/What-is-Double-NAT

Options? (only use 1)

1. put the netgears IP address into the ISP device's DMZ

2. put the ISP's device into modem only/passthrough mode

3. put the netgear in access point mode (half ruins the point of a gaming router)

Not much info on that modem. Did you contact your isp about connecting a router to it?

That's where i'd start

Openreach is not an ISP and does not work with domestic consumers. It is a network operator that provides connections to most of the UK's ISPs.

All the BT modems that I have encountered are modem/routers. Worse, BT provides devices that are not amenable to modem only operation.

I assume that you mean XR1000.

You might get more help, and find earlier questions and answers specific to your device, in the appropriate section for your hardware. That's probably here:

Nighthawk Pro Gaming Routers - NETGEAR Communities

However, I doubt if the support team behind DumaOS can do much about a clash between two routers.

Re: Xr1000 orange light on lan

The modem has openreach written on it but my isp is talk talk, could you recommend a modem to run the xr1000 through that is good?

TalkTalk is one of many ISPs in the UK that use the OpenReach network.

The modem you need depends on the service you have. TalkTalk and BT have a lot of customers on DSL connections. That comes in over the telephone network and is generally limited to ~70 Mbps.

Experienced users prefer using separate modems and routers. This gives them a much bigger choice in routers. Modem/routers rarely have the same choice of features. Nothing like the capabilities of your XR1000.

Modem/routers are also at the back of the queue when it comes to firmware updates for security and new features. Indeed, for most cable modem/routers there aren't firmware updates, because ISPs don't allow users or device makers to push out updates. And they rarely get round to it themselves.

The ideal DSL modem from Netgear is the DM200. But you may have a hard time finding one. When I needed a second one for my other line I had to go to the "open box" market. What I got looked suspiciously brand new, with all the bits of plastic protection you'd expect on a new device. I even paid about the same price that I coughed up for the first "official" one. They don't seem to be around now.

There are second hand DM200s out there. If they still work there is no reason why they should not soldier on.

You can buy new modem/routers. But these can cause problems. I dumped a D6400 because it took too long to negotiate an Internet connection that the router behind it times out, leaving me with a dead network. No problem if you are there when it happens, but a pain of there is a power cut when you are away.

Any "modem" that offers wifi is not modem only. It is a modem/router.

Perhaps the TalkTalk user community can offer some suggestions.

You likely need to enter PPPoE details into the XR and then you should be able to get a connection
