Xr500 Randomly Shuts off
It's been doing it a lot sometimes randomly and will happen twice no matter if I shut it off or not. It happens also when I start to stream which it will shut off twice.

Which WiFi band are you using? 5GHz is known not to reach as far as 2.4GHz.

After 20m through 2 walls their signal but no wifi with 2.4hz but my ac 1700 reaches at least 50m+ through multiple walls. Also still shuts off directly plugged in the wall and logs say Dos attack: Ack Scan.

These devices and firmware seem very troublesome. I eventually gave up after trying all the fixes I could find on here.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 22, 2020NetDuma PartnerIt sounds like you probably need to rearrange where the antennae are pointing as it shouldn't be as bad as you're describing. Also you may be in a highly congested WiFi area so use a WiFi analyzer to find the least congestion channel and change to that. Does the connection come back on its own or do you reboot to fix it?
- MorsMessorFeb 22, 2020AspirantWhere it is now I can't since it's kind of in a smaller space on. Shelf but still when I had it on top of the desk with the antenna facing like the Products picture the wifi range has been abysmal. I live in a house with 2 different wifis. My parents router is closer to my room but the speeds are abysmal since it dsl. Would that effect the Wifi range that much? But when I use a ac1700 the wifi works well outside my house 4x the wifi range of my xr500. Along with it shutting off with the Log Doc Attack: Ack Scan.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 22, 2020NetDuma PartnerThe log entry is fine, it's normal for Netgear routers, they just show what connections you've come into contact e.g. Facebook. Having two wifi signals they will compete but do you have the router connected to a powerline adapter by any chance? Also what country are you in?
- MorsMessorFeb 22, 2020AspirantI had my router connected to a surge protector power strip then moved too the wall and still shuts off. Also I live in NY, USA. I'll turn off the other router too see if that's why the wifi range is off but my Ac 1750 reaches insane range which after a year it did the same as my Xr500 with no range past 20m so I bought an ac3000 which worked wonderfully but due to my pet it broke. So I got the xr500 and the wifi range is worse than the ac1750 and also resets it self randomly.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 22, 2020NetDuma PartnerNo worries I understand the issue. So there is no powerline adapter that you're plugging the ethernet into the router from? The ethernet is direct from modem to router? Could you provide a screenshot of the advanced WiFi settings page please?
- MorsMessorFeb 23, 2020AspirantIt is Directly connected via Ethernet to a Netgear cm700 which is on a brand new surge protector power strip. When the router resets all the lights stay on the modem.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 23, 2020NetDuma PartnerIt looks like you've got Smart Connect enabled, could you disable this please and see if when 2.4/5GHz are able to be connected to individually that they reach further?
- MorsMessorFeb 23, 2020AspirantI'll do that when I get home along with move the router back on top of the TV Stand. I did change to Channel 1 and did get 2 bar signal with 8mbps down load which is still 3x less than my ac3000 use too.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 23, 2020NetDuma PartnerOkay keep us posted please, I think there must be something blocking the signal, it doesn't make sense otherwise.
- MorsMessorFeb 24, 2020AspirantThat seemed to work for the wifi range as for now about 30m from the router which is my room I get 28mbps down out of 117 which is extremely reasonable. Turned off the other router and had 0 effect on the signal/speed. It still shuts off randomly Happens when I'm playing on my PC, almost everytime I stream and sometimes just watch youtube. Only happens between 2am-5am. All the modem lights are on it's like someones just resets it.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 25, 2020NetDuma PartnerIf you go to Settings > Monitoring > Connection Status and click renew, once it comes back online does the issue happen again between 2-5am?
- MorsMessorFeb 26, 2020AspirantIt shut off twice in the past 2 hours once at at 8:30pm and just now 9:07pm. I did what you told me too let's see if that works. It hasn't shut in a few days.
- MorsMessorFeb 26, 2020AspirantDid the renew thing and still shut off at 1:10am
- Netduma-FraserFeb 26, 2020NetDuma PartnerI think the router probably needs a replacement, I would suggest you start the RMA process with Netgear by making a ticket here: http://support.netgear.com/ or contacting the retailer your purchased from.
- MorsMessorFeb 26, 2020AspirantDefinitely can't return it back to Amazon. I've seen 2 different dates on when the warranty expires one was May 9th and the other was last year. So I'm probably SoL outta 200$.
- Netduma-FraserFeb 26, 2020NetDuma PartnerTry making a ticket with Netgear anyway as they may still RMA. Otherwise hopefully as we expect DumaOS 3.0 to be more stable it'll be fixed by then but it does sound like a fault to me.
