xfinity 1gb internet slow on http but not https dslreports
Hey guys, I got an xr500 and xfinity gig internet.
On the dslreports speetest, if I am running the test on the http version I only get 300mbps, but when I use the https version I get the max (900+). Also, when I use speedtest.net or the xfinity speedtest I see 900+.
It only bothers me because I don't seem to get "gig speeds" when I download. I am not a novice and I understand there are all sorts of limitations along the way, but the fact I am getting such lower speeds with http has me wondering what might be going on at the router.
When I plug directly into the modem on a different machine, I have no issues with http.
Any thoughts/help? Could this be some sort of firewall issue? (I do have windows 10 and have tried it with and without the firewall on and it behaves the same).
PS: I turned off all QOS and still see the same results.

Hi Barrok - this happens because DSL reports uses port 80 to run their tests. Currently that is the only port not hardware accelerated by the router due to the blocking features in settings.
If you try speedtest.net you’ll see full speeds. We'll be implementing something in a future firmware to allow hardware acceleration on port 80.

Thanks for the responses. After reading that website I have learned a bunch but I don't seem to see any solutions.
Is my only solution to wait for an update? Is Port 80 something all browsers default to? What about steam or battle.net or Netflix. If they all use Port 80 then isn't this a pretty big deal?

Neither of those use port 80 for their main content (Google search will give you a list of the ports they use).
It shouldn’t affect you as most applications needing high bandwidth will use other ports. Let us know if you are having problems - but it shouldn’t impact you.
