Ethernet router
I want to set up my network as internet cable <= => Arris 6190 <= => an Ethernet switching device <= => home Ethernet cables <= => Computers, wifi router, TV, Blue Ray etc. Can this be done. What Ethernet switching device would work?
At this time I have a GS316 unmanaged switch. The connections are as follows Arris 6190 cable internet router to Netgear GS316. The GS 316 is then connected to my house Ethernet wires. The Ethernet connects to Nighthawk AC 2600 Smart WiFi Router and a Samsung TV and works fine. When I try to connect my any computer to the rest of the Ethernet, it states the Internet is not there. I see the lights on the GS 316 light up. I am thinking this was the wrong Ethernet switch for the network. The installation sheets show this should work. Is there a Ethernet switching device that will do what I want, instead of the GS 316

Re: Ethernet router
The problem comes from the fact that your going modem-----switch-----router.
Your isp provides you 1 public ip address. And then you need a devices (like a router) to handle the private ip address assignments.
When you go modem---switch and have more than 1 device connected to that switch, which ever device connects first gets assigned that public ip address and it isn't able to assign other devices ip addresses. so 1 will connect. but not others.
so go modem------router-----switches/devices/access points.
You can always buy a cheapish router and disable its wifi and connect to the modem. Or leave the wifi on it running so you have a backup or overlapping coverage. Then use the other router you have as an access point
