Cm1150v and apple exteme

Just bought a cm1150v. Activated easily with comcast when just connected directly to the Mac Pro. But when I introduced an Apple Extreme router everything stopped. Once in many reboots and cable disconnection / reconnections did I get internet. The strangest thing was that for multiple reboots I could not get the WiFi to turn on, and then when the green light did come on there was still no WiFi signal and the Mac said it was not connected to the internet.  The Extreme router was in bridge mode. Does it need to be in dlns / nat mode with this modem?  After some fiddling and reactivating I am back with the Arris 1682 with everything working. Any thoughts would be appreciated before I simply give up and return the 1150.

Re: Cm1150v and apple exteme

The mistake that many make with the cm1150v is thinking that its a router.

Its not. Its a modem only with voice capability.

It does have 4x ethernet ports but the average user can ony use 1.

the reason it has 4 is some ISP's allow multiple public ip addresses (most don't allow this) as well as ports 1 & 2 can be used for wan port aggregation. The apple extreme doesn't.

So if you have more than 1 device plugged into it, thats you're issue.

It needs go to modem-----router (in router mode, not bridge/AP)-------devices.

unplug other devices from the modem, reboot the modem and the router, and then boot up the modem first. give it a couple minutes then plug the router into port 1 of it and boot up the router.

Thanks for the help. I think it is probably having the router in bridge mode that is the problem. When I have another couple of hours I will retry it.

   ARRIS TG1682G?  Which is a "gateway" (modem+router)?  Which you've
now replaced with a simple modem?

Presumably, that means that it was configured as a wireless access
point, which would make sense when it was connected to the ARRIS TG1682G
modem+router.

Now, however, with a simple modem, you need a (NAT) router.

Yes.  Or with any other _modem_ (without another router).

One good first step would be to stop abbreviating model numbers.

Then, visit http://netgear.com/support , put in your (actual) model
number, and look for Documentation.  Get the User Manual (at least).
Read.

That's _a_ potential problem, but not having a router (acting as a
router) is also important.
