Nighthawk Tri-Band AX12 & Nighthawk AX12 - What's the Difference?

RAX200_PDP__Fastest_WiFi.jpgWhile the Nighthawk AX12 router (RAX120) and Nighthawk Tri-Band AX12 (RAX200) router share a similar name, there are some key features that differentiate the two.

Tri-Band vs Dual Band - As a Tri-Band router, the Nighthawk Tri-Band AX12 provides three dedicated WiFi bands; one 2.4 GHz and two 5GHz bands. Combined with Wi-Fi 6 technology, this router ensures your fast WiFi stays fast and can efficiently handle multiple devices connected to your network..

Flexible Internet – The Nighthawk Tri-Band AX12 router is the only router in our Wi-Fi 6 (AX WiFi) lineup that offers this feature. Flexible Internet lets you connect to the Internet using the following three methods:

  • 1Gb WAN port – The standard Ethernet port on your router
  • Ethernet port aggregation (available for WAN and LAN aggregation) – Since the Nighthawk Tri-Band AX12 supports both WAN and LAN aggregation, you can link the two ports together to enjoy Multi-Gig Internet speeds.
  • 2.5G Multi-Gig port – When connecting a Multi-Gig capable device to the 2.5G port on your Tri-Band AX12, you are able to reach speeds of up to 2.5Gbps

Built for Gigabit speeds and beyond, Gigabit homes will be able to enjoy blazing-fast internet speeds and consistent WiFi connectivity and performance for every device on your network. Additionally, a dedicated 5GHz band will deliver smoother 4K/8K Ultra HD streaming and latency-free online gaming. With Wi-Fi 6 technology, you’ll benefit from having more available bandwidth for all connected devices you have now, and those that will enter the home in the future!

@Dustin_V thanks for the information, but it’s not clear to me what the major differences are. Besides Tri-band technology, does the RAX200 have any other advantages over the RAX120?

The RAX200 is essentially an RAX80 with an extra 5Ghz band and 2.5 Gbps Eth port. Same CPU and WiFi chipsets. These are Broadcom chipset based.

The RAX120 is a Qualcomm based unit with a slightly faster CPU and a more advanced WiFi chipset. Qualcomm usually does a better job of implementing advertised features.
