Open Ports Win 10

Hello, new guy here who just recently purchased the RAX120. Today I visited Steve Gibson Research website and ran Shields Up to see my exposure to open ports. I had been there a long time ago when I had Zone Alarm's firewall and after running Shields Up all ports were in stealth mode. Since Win10 came out I heard that their firewall was really good and probably not need Zone Alarm anymore so discontinued the subscription. But now after visiting SGR I found that 17 ports are open so not sure if I should be concerned about it. After some research, one website said to put your router in stealth mode would be the easiest but can't find any info on how to do that. Is there such a thing as doing that? If so, how? Any info, work arounds, etc would be very appreciated.

Much thanks,

DbleT

Hello DbleT,

Would you mind elaborating on the term "stealth mode." You may also refer to the user manual linked below for more information on supported features:

Re: Open Ports Win 10

Hi Christian,

If you scan for open ports at https://www.grc.com/shieldsup the scan results will let you know if your computer has any open ports that a hacker could find using a open port scanner. Just trying to keep my computer safe and perhaps this is nothing to get worked up about. Thank you for inquiring as I appreciate any feedback I can get on this subject.

Re: Open Ports Win 10

Just thought I'd add that when you run the scan it shows open, closed and stealth ports (port scanners that a hacker might use can't "see" the ports as I understand it if they are in stealth mode). A long time ago when I used Zone Alarm Security Suite all my ports were in stealth mode. Hardly any are now since I use Malwarebytes and Windows Securtiy to keep my computer secure.
