I’m trying to eliminate dead spots and weak spots in my wifi signal at the house. I have an ASUS ROG router as my main router. I was able to successful hookup the one it replaced as a wifi repeater. That one is a DLink 885L. it gets the wifi signal from the ASUS router and repeats it perfectly. I have another router, a netgear r7000 ac1900. I’d like to set that up as a repeater as well repeating the wifi signal of the main router (asus rog).
I connected an ethernet cable to it and to the tp link switch I have that is wired back to the asus router. But the netgear isn’t getting an internet signal. I tried connecting it directly to the back of the asus router but still no luck. The LEDs continue cycling which I believe indicates it can’t get an internet signal. I’ve tried connecting my laptop to it and then try to get to the admin panels but no luck. I’ve tried doing that with and without an ethernet cable hooked up to the internet port. I’ve tried holding the reset button on the back of the netgear to reset to factory settings. No matter what I do the LEDs just keep cycling. When searching for the NETGEAR wireless network, it is not found.
I know I need to get to the admin pages so I can turn off dhcp on the netgear and make some other changes so it can be a repeater. But I just can’t figure out how.

You can try recoving it with tftp or nmrpflash.
are you on windows? if so, follow this guide
https://kb.netgear.com/000059634/How-to-upload-firmware-to-a-NETGEAR-router-using-Windows-TFTP
just make sure you enable tftp
https://www.thewindowsclub.com/enable-tftp-windows-10
and here's a video walk through using a tftp client. Use the built in one for windows 10 though. the video is more of an example of how its done.

and if that doesn't work, you can try using nmrpflash

Re: R7000 AC1900 Router
i've tried that but i can't get to the admin pages to go through those steps. it says to use an ethernet connection (Note: Use a wired Ethernet connection during setup to avoid interfering with your wireless connection.). but connection back to what? i tried an ethernet connection to my existing router and i've connected it to my laptop, doesn't work. if i connect it to my modem, then i can't wirelessly connect to my main router.
- Launch an Internet browser from a computer or wireless device that is connected to your Nighthawk router’s wireless network. - since the netgear router isn't coming on line, it is not showing a wireless network.
- Visit http://www.routerlogin.net. If http://www.routerlogin.net does not work, try the following:
- NONE OF THESE WORK IN A BROWSER

Re: R7000 AC1900 Router
TADA. i was able to get the nmrpflash process to work and push the firmware upgrade. my router is now operating correctly. I'm able to see the netgear wifi network and the lights are no longer cycling.
thank you for all your help and useful links to get this resolved.
