My equipment:
Home ATT modem - Pace Plc Model 5268AC, Hardware Version 260-2173300, Software Version 10.7.0.530220-att.
Allowed Applications are ALL, ALL Port numbers, ALL Protocols. (This is how I was set w/ the Asus and it was fine)
RAX80 router. Firmware Version V1.0.1.56_1.0.23
Several Linux computers (none running Windows presently. occasionally one will be booted, but for the most part only linux, lots of wifi lights, thermostat, rokus, a home NAS for storage).
I recently changed routers from an Asus ROG GT-AC5300 over to the RAX80. In doing so, I had to set everything up to use the new network 10.0.0.x as the Asus used 192.168.1.x. Everything seems to be going fine except two things that are likely easy to solve but I don't see it.
#1 - This darn auto lock/logout on the router interface! Is there any way to set it to 30mins at least before it makes me re-login? Not a "problem" but annoying when you keep coming back to the tab 🙂
#2-Dynamic DNS . With Asus I could use Google (https://support.google.com/domains/answer/6147083?hl=en) and that enabled me to use my own domain address. Now with the RAX80, my only options are Netgear, NoIP or DynDNS. There's not even the option to set it up as the Google link I provided shows. Is there a workaround?
#3 - DNS not routing inside the network (behind my router). Hopefully, I named that correctly. Let me explain. When I had the Asus router, I could "ping diskstation" (which is the name of my NAS) and it would return results. Or I could ping a local computer "ping Robert" and it would find that address inside my network and return. I could also smb map or hit the local webpage for the NAS (https://diskstation.local:5001/ was my bookmark). Now with the RAX80 to find it, I have to go to the ip address (https://10.0.0.5:5001/ ) any ideas what I'm missing?

Still not supported - Netgear does ork on router specs from 1990.

An own DNS server would make management much more difficult, as you have to reserve IP addresses on the router (or put static configs on the devices), and then manually add entries on the DNS server.
dnsmasq can takethe hostname specified as part of the DHCP process, and autometically serve for a local domain.
Again, Netgears specs from 1990.
@ChristineT @Christian_R that's again food for your discussions with the consumer people - these features are standard on modern consumer routers elsewhere (for years [Google DNS] resp decades local LAN DNS). All features overdue on all Netgear routers (not just the new ones).

I have found a couple of pretty old threads that are stating that NO Netgear routers will resolve this. Surely this has been fixed by now!
Would a resolution be to run a DNS server off my NAS inside my network?
