7800 Client Mode?

7800 Client Mode?

Is it possible to setup my R7800 as a client? I used to have my own connection through Sparklight I originally bought it for a couple years ago. Unfortunately now I'm in an appartment & trying to avoid buying a wifi card to get my gaming rig online.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

You already have your own router/wifi in the apartment? you just want the r7800 to connect to it so you can hardwire a pc into the r7800?

Is that correct?

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Be aware, if you have WPA2 and WPA3 mixed modes enabled on the host router, the R7800 won't connect in wireless bridge mode. The Host will need to use WPA2 only.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Yes & no, the router/modem combo that's providing wifi in my appartment is upstairs in my landlords area. It's just one of those combo units leased from Sparklight. Probably a Hiltron CGNM-2250. Yeah I want my 7800 to connect to it wirelessly so I can just plug my desktop pc into my 7800.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Unfortunately it wont, settings attempt to apply but then the page refreshes & says unable to connect. From that point forward I can't log into my modem at all. Acts as if it's bricked, have to use that tiny pin reset button on back to reset the modem to factory defaults.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

What modem do you have? the R7800 is a router only device.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Are you setting up the R7800 for Dynamic or static IP addressing when configuring the Bridge mode settings?

How is the modems wifi configured? SSID name, CHANNELS and WPA mode?

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Do you mean the one I'm trying to bridge with? It's Hiltron our landlord leases from Sparklight. I'm not sure model number. As for mine it's a Nighthawk X4S AC2600 R7800.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Dynamic IP, I've been trying the 5ghz channel option, with or without the 5G suffex doesn't seem to matter. Attached in 3 replies because of limit are pics of everything so you can cross examine. I've looked over a dozen times though, matches up, should work.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

That should work.

Look at the R7800s Advanced tab page to see the status of the connection...

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

I can't, once I apply the settings for bridge mode it logs me out of the router & is inable to sign back in. I have to factory reset in order to sign in & setup router with default settings all over again. At that time it just says disconnected no internet access.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

If you set a static IP while in the same range on the R7800 for bridge mode as the host routers IP address pool range, you can access the R7800 while in bridge mode using the IP address you input for static IP. I used 192.168.#.78.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

So I need to change my landlords dns ip or mine in bridge mode? Their hiltron dns ip is set to auto which I guess is dynamic so it doesn't say. How do I find out what the host routers ip range is?

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

Just use there routers IP address for DNS or you can use any DNS on the R7800 side while in bridge mode.

You'll need to ask the landlord to take a look at the routers IP address pool size on that unit 192168.1.2 thru .254 maybe seen. Might ask if they can make this 192.168.1.100 to .250. Then you could set a static on the R7800 for 192.168.1.78.

Re: 7800 Client Mode?

The only information within their router I can find is Private LAN IP Adress: 192.168.0.1/24. From what I can tell there's no way to change the 24 to a different value. I tried to set the DNS to the routers IP which I think is 192.168.0.1. Left the part about Get IP Address Dynamically alone though. I'll just screenshot everything because I can't figure it out.
