AC1900 R7000 router

Received an email about a firmware update but it is asking me for a User ID and password and I have no idea what that is. I've tried some different combinations but nothing works. How can I access this information?

You are not doing anything wrong the problem is with Netgear's server you are trying to connect too it has happening to people off and on for a few days I guess it is growing pains for the new look the community web site will have.

Just go directly to Netgear's website to download the latest firmware:
https://www.netgear.com/support/product/R7000
Then follow the instructions in the Release Notes to install the firmware. These are the notes for the latest version:
